*at last, the long-awaited album*

Bolehland answer to the Jap's Kemuri and Potshot, and the States' Rancid

After a long struggle, cons and empty promises, JB skapunk mob Plague of Happiness has releases their long-overdue debut album 'Kawan', a DIY self produced, self finance CD. This is punkrock to the bone.Third wave ska assault full of songs about positivity, empowerment and unity.

Joe Kidd sums it up best in his review (he rate the album ):
After so many recording attempts for this project; time and time again
being ripped-off by studios, dragged around by crap production people,
offers by a major label (who threatened them with total boycott if they
didn’t sign the contract!) etc., Johor’s main ska-punk proponent PLAGUE
OF HAPPINESS finally decided to give their best in a posh studio in
Singapore; self-financed, self-dictated!

As a personal friend to this band, i feel so proud to hear the opening
track Resah Awan with a nicely arranged keyboard + horn sections. The overall album production is clean, on par with all the CDs at the megastores. Not too spicy
nor heavy.

Resah Awan- EP version (jim visible at 2:19...heheh)

Konspirasi is their best track (for me at least). A song that could make u mosh and dance at the same instance with all the thumping drums, skanky guitarwork and uptempo horn beat. (They once forced an organiser to cut-short their set due to crowd frenzy when this song was performed. I wrote about that 'incident' here)

And for all their effort, it is only fair if maybe u could give em a listen here > a 4-song stream (Kawan, Konspirasi, Resah Awan and Malam). Available at DIY-friendly shops for RM25 (such as Joe Kidd's Ricecooker shop at CM and Auntie's at Campbell).

To Nas,Kudut & Gengx...If u're reading this, i wish u all CONGRATULATIONS for a job well done

'The Duck' San Siro debut today

*update*: the 18 years old manage to score on his debut (Milan 5-2 Napoli)
other Milan scorers: Ronaldo, Kaka, Seedorf

_________________________________________________________________
The Duck is set to make his Serie A debut in Milan vs Napoli today. Duck who?

Having
scored and laid on two goals on his Internacional debut against
Palmeiras in November 2006, 17 years old Alexandre 'The Duck' Pato was selected for their Fifa World Club
Cup bid.

Internacional went on to defeat Barcelona in the final and an international manhunt was launched by Europe's top sides. Milan AC succeeded in landing Pato, signing him on a £10m buy-out clause from Internacional in August 2007. Hype? Gamble?

Alexandre Pato - A Revelação?
1989
Born September 2 in Pato Branco, Parana.
2001
At
the age of 11, moved to Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul and started
sharing housing with 83 other teenagers that, much like him, wanted to
make a name for themselves in the SC Internacional first team.

2006
November
26
: Scored on his first team debut after 94 seconds with his first
touch of the ball, set up two more - including one with a disconcerting
dribble - and headed against the post in a hectic 57 minutes before
being substituted with Internacional 4-0 ahead of Palmeiras.
December
13
: Produced a dazzling display as
Internacional beat Al Ahly 2-1 to reach the Club World Cup final. Pato
scored once and had a goal disallowed before being taken off injured in
the second half.
December 17: Played 61 minutes in the final as Internacional overcame Barcelona to win the FIFA World Club Cup Japan 2006

2007
January:
Part of the Brazil side that won the South American Under-20
Championship. He was Brazil's leading scorer in the tournament with
five goals.
July: Represented Brazil in the FIFA U-20 World Cup at
Canada. He was part of the team that reached the round of 16 but was
defeated by Spain 4-2 after extra time. Scored 3 goals in 4 games.
August 2: The long drawn
race to sign Alexandre Pato come to an end with AC Milan signing him. The Rossoneri paid his buy-out
clause of 14.5 million euros, and have handed him a five year contract
worth 2 million euros per season. However, Pato cannot feature in
official games for the Rossoneri until January. Revealed the club: "The
great talent Alexandre Pato will train with Milan and will be able to
play the friendly matches starting from the 3rd of September 2007. From
the 3rd of January 2008 onwards, he will also be able to play in the
official games."
September 6: Scored one goal on his AC Milan debut,
a 2-2 friendly draw organised to celebrate the 80th anniversary of
Dinamo Kiev (clip here)

\\{}{}// thE Rundown \\{}{}//

(Note: Underlined terms indicate the post on that particular event. please click to read more)

In no particular order, the following are the favourite low and high moments of the last 12 months:

the arrival of my niece Miss Nurin Najwa to Planet Earth

brisbane>goldcoast>sydney rendezvous.
(a.k.a balik mesia terus kayap trip)
I would like to repeat my ah respecto to Jos, Mamak and Mat Prean for their allround rad-ness

(Now that AirAsiaX fly to Goldcoast frequently, i recommend u holiday people out there to consider Goldcoast's Surfers Paradise. Definitely a nice place to chill. u wont regret it)

the second visit from the legendary forefathers of grindcore to our shores

EPL is the best league in the universe. But, unfortunately I almost consider Milan AC as my second religion.
2007 was an emotional & momentous year, with  UEFA Champions League, European Supercup and the Club World
Cup in the trophy cabinet.
Playmaker Ricardo Kaka, who had a superb season, won the coveted European Player of the Year (Ballon D'Or) and Fifa World Player  of the  year.
Milan pathetic
domestic league form for season 07-08 is a course for concern though

Two of my best college buddies Encik Epi and Encik Dino, who both regard UK as their current playground, went back to tanahair for a brief holiday. (If either one of u is reading this, please dont forget me when u got all famous and bling bling)

Fat Mike & Co of NOFX ripping the stage here in Bolehland? that is a bit hard to swallow.  After all, the respected quartet is arguably the biggest institution in punkrock, along with Rancid maybe.
In fact, my first VOX post was about this particular event...and dammit Mawi was stoked too...he was all over the moshpit

A memorable trip with the right people, right attitude. I blog about this long and hard here.
Again, i would like to salute these people for their radness: joker, sedi, scott, kechique and jos
(confession:  day 1,2,3,4&5 were posted; still owe u guys day 5,6 and 7...eerrrrr)

and hey....u must love your country:
on 31st of August of last year, Bolehland hit the half century mark

Parameswara, Alfonso D Albuquerque,
Hang Tuah&Crew, Tun Sambanthan, Tun Tan Cheng Lok, Tunku Abdul Rahman and Sharifah Aini must be proud.

and at least Dr. Love can 'enjoy it more' and nobody shall give a damn

Last August Bolehland hosted the inaugural "Champions Youth Cup', a
tournament which feature the youth teams of earth's  biggest clubs.
The
group stage was played in several cities...and the roadtrip to Melaka
to catch Porto vs Inter and Man Utd vs Boca Juniors was good fun.

For this first edition, Man Utd was champion, beating Juventus in the
Final.  Flamengo pipped Milan AC  for third place
...and the funny thing is throughout the
tournament Joneng and Mie were busy stalking players..hehe

'Third Wave Ska' (i.e skapunks) hit the hightimes during  mid to end of 90s with bands like No Doubt(!), Reel Big Fish, Rancid, Sublime and Mighty Mighty Bosstones. If you are an avid indie music listener, by now most probably u could observe that ska music is truly dead and buried.

But a complete turnaround in 2007: after a long hibernation, ska has return to form baby...great bands such as  Big D  and The Kids Table, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Streetlight  Manifesto,  Mustard  Plug and Buck-O-Nine  have all released solid and catchy skapunk release...the rudeboys could be safely invited back to the dancefloor.

i still have one wish though: a Suicide Machines reunion
and speaking of reunion...

2007 saw the reforming of two important bands: the first was a politically charged force and the second was arguably among the most influential band of all time

At Coachella music festival last year, Zach de la Rocha reunite with the rest of RATM members Tom Morello, Tim Bob and Brad Wilk (all  3 were members of the now-defunct Audioslave fame) after a feud due to creative and political differences.  Their reformation signals the comeback of one of the most critical voice on the domestic and foreign policies of the Bushy Admin.
New album? according to Tom Morello it is still sketchy...but if there is one i hope it will be in the same vein as the classic 'self titled' album (93) and 'Evil Empire' (96)

Back in September when organizers announced the Led Zep reunion, the O2 Arena (formerly known as 'Millennium Dome') site selling tickets crashed as
millions of fans across the world rushed for about 20,000 seats, which was then made available via a lottery system
well...what more could we say about Led Zep? they help to define the term 'rock' to a new level.

exclusively, check out these 2 songs off that concert:

Schumi has retired...and what did we gain in return?
I tell u what...the most thrilling season in recent years
that is.
Especially the unpredictable last three races which would have gone to any of the 3 frontrunners.
Hopefully there would be more thriller in store on the upcoming new season...i believe Alex Yoong is stoked

the best thingy about this 'study' trip... errr..it was fully sponsored by the office

<one of the HIGHLIGHT of the year (below left pic): poor Britney Spears getting seriously funny...and crazier...and sh*ttier.
Mickey Mouse Club members wont like this...but some people predicted she will commit suicide this year...watch this space

>and lastly,
2007 was ended good (below right pic)

QotD: Best Photo of '07

What's the best photo you took this year?  Show and tell!
first thing first: This is not 2007 best work.  I just wanted to share with you a strange phenomenon that possesed me last year...I developed this kinky fetish of cam-triggering myself in the men's room.  Kinda spooky huh?

my top pick of 2007

Radiohead- Bodysnatchers

5.RADIOHEAD – In Rainbows

This is Radiohead’s most straightforward, organic-sounding
album since The Bends.  It finds the band shedding melodic,
accessible songs, a departure from the computerized music of previous three
albums on Kid A, Amnesiac and Hail To The Thief. A gorgeous, if
understated return to form

Alkaline Trio- Warbrain

4.ALKALINE TRIO – Remains

A collection of B-sides, Split-series and rarities, Remains
proves that Matt Skiba and Dan Andriano are without doubt some of the most
talented song writers’ punkrock has ever seen. Some of the material here could
have been a top quality song on any of their previous album. And  If only the upcoming Trio album is anything
near ‘From Here To Infirmary’, I would die happy.

Lifetime- Airport Monday Morning

3.LIFETIME – Lifetime

Considered one of the most influential bands in modern punkrock today, many questioned whether Lifetime should tarnish their legacy by
releasing their first new LP in over 10 years. Luckily, these New Jersey
natives did, and delivered a record that picked up exactly where the godfathers
of melodic hardcore left off. They knew better than anyone of the high
expectations and old cynics yelling ‘cash-grab’ but Lifetime tread carefully
yet confidently and put fears to rest. Now, I am stoked for Dan Yemin’s other
band, Paint It Black’s new album ‘New Lexicon’ due out this February.

Big D And The Kids Table- Noise Complaint

2.BIG D AND THE KIDS TABLE – Strictly Rude

Boston’s Big D and The Kids Table is arguably the current  flagbearer of Skapunx with the release of
Strictly Rude. Now on a much larger platform with indie giant SideOneDummy, they
have taken one giant leap forward. Creating music that blends a melody of
sounds and instruments providing a full demonstration of punk, third wave ska
and traditional ska influence , this is definitely the party album of the year.

A Wilhelm Scream- Die While We're Young

1.AWILHELM SCREAM – Career Suicide

Heard about the hype of this album way before it was
released,  and it certainly blows (wrote
bout it in previous post here).  Coming off
pretty damn good albums in ‘Mute Print’ and ‘Ruiner’, AWS is the new darlings
of Melodic Punk/Hardcore.  Constantly
challenging the boundaries of Punk, ‘Career Suicide’ shows AWS in top form. The
musicianship is tighter than your pants, with technical songs laden with solid
guitar work, spectacular drumming and timed changes, and the newly-found stomping
bass dept.  Currently within my heavy
rotation, this is my pick as the album of the year. (and I am not alone, apparently
this certain community agreed with me)

_______________________________________________________________

and btw, Alternative Press readers voted Paramore as the top band of '07...errr..i dont think so...but Hayley Williams is a strong bet for the scene's hottie of the year though
